Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal has reportedly declined his $36.4-million player option and will become a free agent, his agent Mark Bartelstein tells ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Beal now has the option to sign a five-year max deal to return to the Wizards worth $248 million, which he is expected to do. However, if he chooses not to and entertains free agent offers, he can play on a four-year deal somewhere else.

The 29-year-old was drafted by the Wizards third overall in 2012, and in 10 seasons he has been named an All-Star three times. Beal averaged 23.2 points, 6.6 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game in 2021-22.

This past season the Wizards did not qualify for the playoffs, and last season lost 4-1 to the Philadelphia 76ers in the first round.
