Adapted Program Leader – Vancouver, BC


Riley Park Hillcrest Community Association (RPHCA) is accepting applications from enthusiastic and responsible individuals for part-time Adapted Program Leader positions. The ‘Freestyle’ and ‘Frontier’programs are adaptive social groups for youth and young adults between the ages of 13-25 with mild to moderate behavioural and developmental needs. Through recreational activities, these inclusive programs foster independence and self-esteem, reinforce life skills and develop positive peer relationships.

RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Encourage youth and young adult participants to be self-advocates through a person-centered model of program delivery. Youth and young adults will be involved in planning weekly activities and out trips
  • Working in collaboration with the Community Youth Worker and the program team to plan, prepare, lead and modify activities to ensure successful participation by all
  • Connect youth and young adults with a variety of community centre opportunities while supporting a positive and engaging experience for all participants
  • Assist with participant interviews to create relationship and determine program suitability
  • Implement positive behavior support plans in relation to the program
  • Maintain engaged and respectful with staff, volunteers, participants, parents/guardians
  • Other duties/responsibilities as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of grade 12 or equivalent
  • Minimum of six months related experience in recreation with an emphasis on working with people with disabilities
  • Preferred applicants will have an approved diploma in Therapeutic Recreation, Special Education, or a related discipline and/or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written
  • Valid First Aid Certificate (minimum Emergency First Aid) with CPR-C required
  • Food Safe, Class 4 driver’s license, NCCP Coaching, NVCI training are assets
  • Successful completion of Police Information Check with a vulnerable sector search (to be completed upon employment)

TERMS/CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:

Rate of Pay: $20.00-23.00 per hour + 4% in lieu of benefits

Hours of Work: Fridays 3:45-9:15pm (5.5 hrs/week), plus additional prep/out trip hours as necessary. September 2022-June 2023 (with possible extension upon review).
